Social Work Apprenticeship

Our Apprenticeship Programme delivered through a partnership between the University of Hull and ADS. This is a fantastic opportunity for candidates to continue to work at their current grade whilst attending formal academic teaching on a weekly basis allowing learning to be put into practice. It is a three year programme with practice placements in years two and three. The scheme is open to anyone who meets the entry criteria of the University.
Staff can express their interest in this scheme through the appraisal and supervision processes and subject to their service having the capacity they can apply to the programme. Recruitment is a joint process between the University of Hull and ADS and comprises of an application form, a written exam, and interview.
Once completed staff will have a degree in Social Work and be able to register with Social Work England the professional regulator to use the protected job title of Social Worker.

The Apprenticeship is an opportunity to combine obtaining a funded degree whilst maintaining an income and to put learnt theory into workplace practice.

Open to any grade on meeting the university entry criteria and will continue to receive current salary throughout the programme.

On achieving the degree the learner will be eligible and required to register as a Social Worker with the governing body; Social Work England

Registration with Social Work England triggers an immediate salary increase (unless at the top of the band).

Automatic qualification for Social Work vacancies and use of the protected title of Social Worker alongside their job title.

How to become a Social Work Apprentice at ADS

START

An aspiration to train as a Social Worker is identified through the appraisal system.

RECRUITMENT

Recruitment is held jointly between the University and ADS during the early summer. This includes an open Q&A session to find out more about the programme.

APPLYING

Staff complete an application form, supported by their line manager, a written exam and an interview.

INDUCTION

Successful staff begin an induction in September of the recruitment year.

SUPPORT

Staff are fully supported by both the University and ADS during the programme and Practice Educators are provided for the placement elements.

QUALIFYING

At the end of the programme staff have obtained a degree in Social Work and will register to use the protected title with Social Work England, the governing body for the profession.

CAREER PATH

Staff can then progress within the ADS following the Social Worker Career pathway.
