ADS is one of the largest employers of Social Workers in the field of substance use in the country. At any one time approximately 25% of its workforce are qualified Social Workers, working at all levels and led by the Principal Social Worker. This post is responsible for best Social Work practice across the organisation, including ensuring access to CPD opportunities, quality Social Work supervision and governance, and maintaining the long standing link with Social Work Education, through involvement in module delivery, the admissions process and the provision of student placements and the Apprenticeship programme. To this end the organisation has its own team of in house Practice Educators as well as qualified On-site Supervisors.

The Social Workers employed at ADS are all integrated into multi-disciplinary teams consisting of professionals from a variety of backgrounds including RMN’s, RGN’s, Psychologists, Counsellors, Psychiatrists who come together regularly to review service users care in a holistic, person centred and strengths based way. The core practice skills, values and theoretical knowledge of Social Workers are key to this approach.

The organisation has a defined career pathway for social workers supporting them pre-qualification through training on placement or via sponsoring staff through the Apprentice Social Worker route, and post-qualification by offering a high quality Assessed and Supported first year in Employment (ASYE), followed by the opportunity to become a Practice Educator. Thereafter the Social Work workforce are supported in their Continued Professional Development (CPD) through an embedded appraisal and supervision structure, opportunity for promotion to higher grades as Social Workers, accredited training through ADS and our NHS partners, access to seminars, conferences and workshops via our membership of the Humber Social Work Teaching Partnership, and a variety of opportunities to work with Universities on admissions panels, academic delivery and assessment boards.

QUALIFIED SOCIAL WORKERS

Newly qualified social workers are able to progress onto our Assessed and Supported Year in Employment programme (ASYE).We recognise that learning doesn’t stop here and are keen to support the continued development of our Social Work workforce with a wide variety of development opportunities including the Practice Education qualification.

CPD

SOCIAL WORKERS PRE QUALIFICATION

The ADS offers two routes into Social Work. The first is through a long history of providing both first and second placements to BA and MA degree students from Universities around the area. The second route into Social Work is through the Apprenticeship programme.

ADS has a high quality practice curriculum mapped both to the Professional Capabilities Framework and the Knowledge and Skills statements ensuring students experience a breadth of Social Work.

Apprenticeships provide great opportunities for candidates to continue to work at their current grade whilst attending formal academic teaching on a weekly basis allowing learning to be put into practice.
